8 Steps to a Painted Staircase Remodel

A stair remodel is such an inexpensive yet breathtaking way to make a difference & a statement in your entry. Three homes that I have showed this month to Buyer clients have taken advantage of this simple & easy way to get rid of the dirty and worn carpet. So don’t be shy, uncover those wood treads and start painting! Here are DIY simple instructions I found to get started:

1. Remove the Carpet & all of the Padding (Things will get messy and ugly but its nothing that a few next steps can’t conquer…)

2. Remove the Staples, Tack Strips, & Leftover Carpet Fuzz
3. Sand (Sandpaper or a Sander) each Stair for a Smooth & Clean Surface
4. Use Wood Putty and Fill all Holes and Gaps

5. Next, Fill Each Gaping Hole with MOLDING of your choice (Want easier? There are several types of molding so have fun & be creative with this…one type you can even cut with SCISSORS! Or buy a $10 miter saw from any homestore to cut it! Mix it up for a variety)

6. It doesn’t need to be perfect, caulk fixes flaws! When all of the molding is in, time to caulk & sand.
7.  Then, you can finally paint with primer. Let fully dry.
8. Time to PAINT! In your color or style of choice. It usually takes about 3 coats and one gallon of paint.

Voila!
